I think I posted at the time of the even back in August, but my neighbor was one of the 31 killed (he was a SEAL) in the helicopter crash on 8/6/11. I saw the amazing support for the families of those killed come out like I had never seen. My neighborhood put yellow ribbons on everyone's mailboxes. We put 31 small flags at the entrance to our addition. The crossfit gyms here did a '31 Heroes' event (www.31heroes.com). I participated in the crossfit event. It kicked my butt but it was awesome to be part of a cause. I would do it this year if it wasn't for the fact it was 12 days before my due date. Joel participated in a 5K at Freedom Fest, an event here in Chesapeake. He ran the 5K with some of his guys from work, and they ran it in gas masks and some gear. It was a sad time, but truly amazing to see the love and support from the whole community here. Later in the fall, our neighborhood park was renamed in honor of our neighbor.
