My sister and her husband moved to DC after getting married last year. When we visited them in December, I told them we weren't coming back until they moved out of DC (traffic and roads suck!), so since they moved to Arlington, we decided to go up for the weekend.
We drove up on Friday after I got off work, stopping on the way to have dinner with one of my friends. We got to their place late, but Logan was so excited to see Aunt Bunny & Uncle James, so it was a while before we went to sleep. Their new place was nice-small- but nice (like most apartments/condos, they are small and in a huge complex). Mys sister spoiled us with all kinds of yummy foods while we were there. Saturday morning she made us waffles- yes, Logan's favorite. She even had berries and homemade whip cream. After breakfast we piled in her car and headed into DC to the Smithsonian National Zoo. I had wanted to go to the Mall and take pictures of the cherry trees, but most blossoms had fallen off, and I figured the zoo would be fun for Logan. Plus, Angela and James said they had been wanting to go, and this was a good excuse (plus it was free).
We spent about 2 hours or so walking around the zoo.Logan had a great time seeing all the animals- monkeys, elephants, lions and tigers were some of his favorites. The lions put on a good show, with some of them "playing like Trooper and Goose" as Logan said, and the male was letting everyone know he was there. It is a nice zoo, and they are adding some exhibits (wolves and sea lions to name a couple) and expanding some current ones, so we will have to go back.
We went back to the house for a late lunch/ light snack. Angela had bought a deep fryer and was dying to try it out, so for dinner we had homemade french fries and chicken strips, which were phenomenal, followed by homemade cookies and cream ice cream that she made with her ice cream maker ( I think we will have to invest in one). Sunday morning she and James made us breakfast tacos, because those are her favorite, and she can't get them in the area. After a filling breakfast, we packed up and headed home, where we were happily greeted by our fur babies.
