September 25th was the first Saturday of fall. However, the weather seemed to think it was still summer, with highs in the upper 80s, so we took advantage of the weather (and a friend's beach house) and went to the Outer Banks for the day.
My friend's family owns a beach house in Cape Hatteras National Seashore area (if you have seen Nights in Rodanthe, its right down the road from that). WE left a little before 9am, stopped for some Chik Fil A and gas, then were on our way. It was a pleasant drive; not the fastest, as the route consists of rural towns and county roads, but nice. I wish we would have stopped at the Wright Brother's Memorial in Kitty Hawk, but there was some mis-communication between myself and the driver...
We got to the house a bit around 1215, bout the same time my friend and her gang did. I decided Logan should eat, so while we got ready for the beach (and drowned Logan in sunscreen since his swim shirt was too small) Daddy went to Diary Queen for hot dogs. After eating, we loaded up the wagon and headed down to the beach. The house is right on the water, so all we had to do was go over the dunes.
Logan had a great time playing in the sand! After a little while I made him sit in his tent, but that didn't matter; he could still get to the sand and have fun. He loved putting sand in the basket (even though it was a wasted effort) and flirting with the ladies. (sorry for the crazy picture organization, I don't have skills yet)
After a little while, we went for a walk, Logan in his wagon, a little ways down to a sand bar with tide pools. The water was quite chilly with decent waves, but this was calm and I knew the water would be a bit warmer for Logan to play in. Logan wasn't quite sure of the water, especially when he sat down just as a little rush of water cam along (the video of it is too funny). Logan just walked around and picked up shells.
We wanted to stay the night, but Joel had to go to work on Sunday, so we left that evening. It was a very nice family day. Logan and I went last year for the day (Staci goes every year), and Logan enjoyed it then so I figured this year he would like it even more. And he did! It was a very nice day with my boys. Here is a pic from last year (just chilled on the deck for over an hour) and this year.
