Germany Day 5

Tuesday Logan and I took a train ride to Heidelberg. Steph dropped us and Lindsey off at the train station; Lindsey was continuing on her adventures in Europe. This was Logan's first train ride, and he was pretty excited. It was about an hour ride, because it stopped every so often. Logan did very well on the ride, looking out the window and playing with the trash can...

We arrived in Heidelberg around 11, and walked around town. I just love the architecture of these towns. The main attraction here is a castle, so that is where we headed. Now this castle sat on a hill, and I had to push Logan in his stroller up a cobblestone hill that was crazy steep. I also had to go up some steps and other fun obstacles, but once we were there, it was beautiful! The view of the town from the castle was very nice (it was a very nice day) and the castle itself was lovely. We didn't tour much in it as you had to pay, and was not stroller friendly ( was not chasing/carrying him around) We walked around the castle and grounds for about 2 hours. It was so excited that Logan fell asleep. Normally I wouldn't complain, but we had to go down to the village a different way. It was a zig-zag street, and it was so steep, Logan kept falling forward (stroller didn't recline any) so he was bouncing around and fussy, and Finally I had to tilt the stroller back and pull it. Whatever, it worked.

We strolled around the town looking in windows, and then sitting down to lunch at a cafe. There as a huge open plaza, with several different chairs and table set-ups. Each cafe had its own, and you just have a seat. WE had the same pizza dish from the day before, and just as yummy. I of course had a "coke light" with 2 ice cubes...

Before leaving, we stopped at a bakery we had passed earlier, just because everything looked so delicious! Good snacks for the train, we made it back in perfect timing for Brian to pick us up (Steph and Brian keep a cell phone just for guests, so it was easy to stay in touch). The rest of the evening we just relaxed and went to bed early, as the next day was going to be a long one!

On this night ( I think) I discovered something. Since arriving Friday, Logan had the worst time going to sleep. I mean screaming for an hour, waking when I would sneak in and cry some more... it was horrible. Once he finally calmed down he would sleep, but it took forever. I could not understand why. So for whatever reason, I was rocking him in my arms while walking around the dark room. His sound machine playing rainfall, and the little disk of sealife lighting up the ceiling. Well as we were walking around, he was staring up at the ceiling (had already tried to put him down once, screamed bloody murder). SO I decided to try something. I set him down in the pack-n-play, wlked over to the machine and turned off the light feature. He looks at me, says "night night mommy" and lays down...No lie! HE was terrified of the sealife on the ceiling! I went downstairs and told Brian and Steph, and they couldn't stop laughing! So the reason Logan could not go to sleep for 4 nights was because he was too scared to close his eye- the sea creatures might get him! I felt horrible! I did have to laugh a little, but I felt bad. (Steph mailed the machine home along with ltos of other stuff I had left to make room in my bag, and when it got to the house, Logan pulled it out of the box and proceeded to rip out the light discs and throw them across the room...)
