My how things change...

Newborn vs. 12 months

This is a follow up to the '1 year' blog (just very late). I am amazed at how much Logan has changed in a year! When he was born, he weighed 7lbs, 5oz and was 20 inches. Today (Monday 7/19)at his 1 year (plus 1 week) check up, he weighed in at 19lbs, 10 oz, and 29 3/4 inches. His height puts him in the 40th percentile, but his weight is still in the 20th. Now the doctor wasn't worried, because he has always been in the 20th percentile, but she wants to check his weight again in 3 months to make sure he is gaining, especially since he is so active now. Logan also got 5 immunizations. He was a little fussy for them, but it was nap time, and he had already been poked once, which brings us to...

...blood draw. Yes, Logan had to have blood drawn, and I was not prepared for this. The doctor wanted to check his hemoglobin/iron, so she wanted to get a little blood. I was told it would be just a finger prick. Nope, it was a full on blood draw from the arm. I felt so bad! I sat in the chair and held his legs and an arm while a nurse and tech go the blood. But what a brave little man! Not ONE peep until the very end, and he just didn't want to be restrained any longer. Even then there were no tears or screaming, just granting an wriggling. I was told I would only get a call if there was a problem. So we went on to get the shots and to the sitters. I went to work for a couple of hours, thanks to the AC being out in my office. I was happy to spend the afternoon with the little guy! When we got home though there was a message on the machine and I knew it was the doctor. Sure enough, Logan's iron count was low, so he has to start on iron supplements, first for 6 weeks, then if the recheck shows better levels, he will be on it for another 3 months. I am a very upset Mommy! What did I do wrong? I am now forcing him to eat his veggies and checking the labels of everything. I want to make sure he stays healthy!

So at 1 year (plus a week or so)....Logan
-can walk! and is doing it more than crawling (though still working on the balance)
-other than mama and dada, says 'uh-uh (uh-oh), 'yeah' (though he isn't sure the meaning)
- has 5 teeth
- no longer takes a bottle; just sippy cups
- drinks whole milk
- loves to feed himself...and the dogs
- finds everything but his toys interesting (shredder, outlets-unplugs things..)
- eats most of what I give him
- is a flirt
- loves Carrie Underwood
- talks to the dogs, cats, and his stuffed animals in a special voice
- goes to bed with no trouble; wakes by 630 every morning, either on his own or as soon as the sound machine is turned off
- likes to dance to music
- loves to talk, squeal, and laugh
- wears size 3 diapers (might move to 4 soon?)
- wears 12 month clothes (some 9-12, some 12-18)
- for some reason likes to play with his socks, including cramming it in his mouth and shaking his head
- can put on a tantrum
- has discovered all the fun the bathroom holds- toilet paper, toilet...
- likes to put things in drawers and take them out, or put things in whatever he can find ( i will be one of those that looses her keys)
- has Mommy wrapped around his little finger
And tons of other things I know I will remember later.

This past year has been amazing. I can't help but smile when I look into those eyes or see that grin. I love that little boy more than I could possibly ever imagine. Here is to another great year of adventures!

Oh Holly, you're a wonderful mommy and I'm sure you didn't do anything wrong!! My thoughts and prayers are with the little guy....that the meds will help and that he won't have to be on them for long. And, I'm praying for you-that you realize that these things just happen sometimes and that you truly are a great mommy!!! Love ya!

You are a fantastic mommy and don't you ever think differently! I know that feeling of what did I do wrong because I was there with Sophie during the pregnancy. I am praying everything with Logan will work itself out, but whatever happens you will handle it like the wonderful mother you are!!! Love you :)
