Air Power Over Hampton Roads

Airplanes! Logan is now fascinated by planes, and for good reason. Back in May, Langley Air Force Base hosted it annual air show, Air Power Over Hampton Roads. We, or I, have gone every year since living in VA. This year was a bit different- Joel's dad was flying in it! He is a pilot for the US Army parachute team, the Golden Knights. Saturday we drove up to Hampton for the day. Joel wanted to fly with his dad, but we got there too late, so he had to stay on the ground. We walked around and looked planes- shocking, right? They had several displays. Everything from current military cargo planes, the F-22 Raptors, planes from WWII, and even a Delta commercial plane. Most of them you could walk in and through; except the Raptors; those were heavily guarded with big dudes with big guns. It started out as an overcast day, and I was afraid the Golden Knights wouldn't get to jump. But as the morning went on, the skies tinned out, and they indeed got to jump. We enjoyed yummy fair corndogs while the jump went on. It was a simple jump because of the low ceiling, but still cool. Once Joel's dad landed the plane, he met us to bring us to the VIP tent for some catered food. Logan was just ready to run around. We ate some food and walked around some more to see some of the static displays. Logan got to climb in some planes. The star(s) of the show were the Thunderbirds, and let me tell you, they were awesome. Logan wasn't a fan of the noise, but since he wouldn't wear his earplugs, we just had to cover his ears.

After the T-birds, Joel's dad took us to his plane. He opened it up and Logan got to climb in it, and even 'fly' the plane! He was so excited. Afterwards we went out to dinner, and then it was hope to sleep. Logan was pretty tired, and Mommy was wore out too(not mention a tad sunburned)

We went back on Sunday, this time for Joel to fly with his dad. Logan and I dropped Joel off for briefings, and we drove over to some friend's that lived on base for short visit. This time we had VIP parking, so I got to park closer to the flight line than the day before. It was a much clearer days, so the Knights jumped higher and did more stunts. Logan was excited to wave to Daddy and Grandpa as the plane drove by after landing. After eating and visiting a few more displays, we called it a day and headed home.

Logan had a great time, and now gets excited every time he sees or hears a plane. When they fly low, he says "Grandpa plane!"
