You know, I should be a pro at moving. Since August 2001, I have moved 9 times; this week will make it 10. This, however, will be the 2nd time that the bulk of the moving is done my someone else (another perk to being in the military). Still, the stress has been mounting over the last week, and hopefully the end will come soon. I guess its more stressful because I worry about the most important thing-Logan. My temper has been short, and the littlest thing makes me fume. Through it all, I am so thankful for an amazing husband who has spend the last 2 weeks cleaning, organizing, and getting rid of crap so I wouldn't have to take leave.
On Wednesday, June 23, our house was packed and put into boxes. We were lucky enough to keep our bed though, and the couch. On Friday though, all that changed. Everything was loaded into a truck to go be parked somewhere...all that was left was the small TV, the Wii, some clothes, some toys, and various other stuff that we didn't want the movers to take. Friday night was night 1 of air mattress sleeping. Night 2 was just as much fun: a slow leak so that when we woke we were on the ground. Luckily for some awesome friends, nights 3-5 were spent on a nicer air mattress that didn't have a leak.
Tuesday (29th) we were having the carpets cleaned, so we would be staying in a hotel til we could move into the new house on the 1st. So Tuesday morn, Joel took Logan to daycare and I took the dogs and cats. And even though there was no where for the cats to hide, I still spent 10 minutes chasing them around the house; Trooper was easy to catch, Goose not so much. Joel finished cleaning while I was at work. After work I picked up the furry kids and headed over to the hotel. Unloaded my car, went to eat, back to the old house to load up some more stuff, and then over to a friends for storing some pictures, and to return the air mattress. Now Joel stayed at the house to clean, and I took a tired and fussy Logan with me...not fun. After leaving my good friend Julie's, we went back to the hotel to feed the dogs, Logan screaming the whole time. And I know he was tired, ready for his night bottle, but I thought the windows were going to explode. go back to the house to get Joel, and back to the hotel. It was a long night, and I will spare you the details of the stressfullness, but lets just say it was no a fun evening.
Wednesday was fairly uneventful. To relieve some stress I woke (somehow)at 530 and took the dogs for a nice long walk around the area we were staying in known as City Center. It was such a nice walk; it was cool and peaceful, and much needed. I was still unbelievably tired afterwards. Joel did the walk-throughs, and the new owners let him unload the Uhaul contents into the garage (so nice of them!). That night the whole family went for a walk and got ice cream (have some pictures but since I still don't have a way to upload...) I have to admit the cooler weather was a blessing. Thursday morning I loaded my car with clothes and ALL 5 kids, and took them to daycare, as Joel's truck was loaded. He checked us out of the hotel, and made his way down to Chesapeake to the new house to meet the movers!
Or not...apparently there was some miscommnuication, so I get a call from him "I have good and bad news...the good news is that our stuff WILL be here tomorrow (Friday)." I am thinking, how is this good news? Its bad because that means its NOT coming today and I have no bed, as I brought the air mattress back to Julie. To top this day (Thursday) not going well, I got stuck in an elevator and stuck in traffic for 20 minutes with all 5 of the kids in the car, luckily Logan stopped screaming and fell asleep. Nothing like sitting in tunnel traffic starving with a full bladder. Needless to say, I had a nice margarita at Chili's for dinner.
So this morning (Friday-TGIF) I drive from our new house to work. Luckily, the drive was not bad at all; hope it stays that way. Not sure when, but our stuff will be delivered today. The dogs are loving the new house, of course; they adjust easily. The cats, not so much. The trauma of the week (hotel room, daycare, vaccines) as them freaked out. Plus, Trooper's carrier fell apart as I carried him into the house, so he fell out and ran behind the fridge, where he got stuck. Goose has been hiding in the litter box since last night. Trooper somehow crammed into the small cat tower. Now they are both in that tower, and I hope they can get out.
I have pics and all, but my cord is who knows where, so I will get new pics up soon. Thankful for the 3-day weekend, though Sunday we will be out of town (story to come later!!!) But for now, I will quit griping and get to work...
